We need a variety of churches to reach a variety of people. The problem is we have a lot of similar churches and musical styles. When we set out to start The Journey, we knew we needed to do things different if we were going to reach and connect with people who were not connected. For The Journey musically, we knew we needed to do things differently.
When people come to church or any experience, they make up there mind in the first 5 minutes. We wanted to create an environment that would break down walls so people will give God a chance in their life. Music is typically one of the first elements of a gathering. So, we realize that it sets the attitude and environment for the morning. Instead of a traditional church setting in a sanctuary, we try to create a casual concert like environment. We have a auditorium where you can bring in your coffee, you might see some funny stuff on the screen before church, then you here a rock song from the band that you probably know from the radio - then the song ties into what they are talking about in the morning and soon walls are broken down and people can explore God. It isn't just about breaking down walls for people
who aren't connected. It is also about providing a different environment. There are many similar church
musically expressions around our area. It's about providing a different environment. We don't want to sound or feel like other churches because we need a variety sounds to reach and connect with a variety of people.
