There has been a bad trend in Christianity when it come to music. Music has become too important. Music is the biggest issue in churches and it's way over-valued. In fact, music is often called worship. While we can worship Jesus through music, the two are not equal. One of my major roles in music, but I don't want to put too high of an emphasis on music (kinda weird and seems dumb). Here's the deal: I am more concerned about what people do with Jesus when they aren't at church. It is easy to create a emotional response with music - that doesn't mean it is more worshipful - just more emotional. Musical worship is more like a prayer - it is a chance to sing (say) great things about God - it can be a time to confess - it can be a time to offer your life. It's about words and heart focus. That is really just the starting point of worship. Worship is beyond talk, it's action. It's about offering your life - not just saying or singing about it - but giving up your own self and doing things sacrificial for God and others - that is worship (Romans 12). If your spouse always says "I love you" or makes you a mix tape of love songs, but doesn't do anything to show love - that isn't really love. Same is true with our relationship with God. While God created the arts and it's a great way to express ourselves to God, worship is so much more - it's about what we do with our lives. So for The Journey, as we deal with music, it's a tool, a method, important - but not too important. I don't want to create an environment where people come for just an emotional high. I want to create an environment that moves people to action and something that sticks with people through the week.
