Jesus came to BE with us so we could belong, believe, become and have a new BEginning
RECAP
We usually have family days on holiday weekends like this, soo we had many family friendly elements. Our Journey kids helped us lead the first song, we had some classic Christmas clips (like Linus from Charlie Brown explaining Jesus' birth) intro some Christmas elements, and Paul and Virginia illustrated forgiveness and a new beginning with some flash paper. Jesus came to defeat sin and give us a fresh start. We talked a little about 2009 and what's ahead for 2010. Jesus never promised everything would be perfect. He did promise that we can have a full life with peace, joy and hope even if things don't go as planned (Romans 15:13, John 10:10). So whatever you are facing currently or if you have dread for what's ahead in 2010, know that we can have hope because Jesus is with us, He sends us his spirit. And if you screwed up 2009, know that today or any day is a fresh start with Jesus - his mercies are new every morning. He again will be with us to help us do the right thing - soften your heart and listen to Him (Ezekiel 35). Jesus came to BE with us so we could have a new BEginning.
THOUGHTS
- Phone rang at 7:00 am. Jennifer was on the line to tell me the Paul was throwing up all night. That's not a good phone call. But I am okay with pressure and being on the fly. We had planned to leave Christmas Eve earlier and set up early Sunday am. Well, that turned into a bad idea. There are a few other issues, but overall we came in not as prepared as we like to be on a Sunday. Oh well.
- I was glad it was a family day because that meant a shorter message for me to share with 5 minutes of preparation. Everything wasn't as tight as usual but it was a family day and there were lots of other elements.
- Paul D. almost lit himself on fire with the flash paper multiple times...it was kinda funny.
- I thought it was a fun day, none the less, with great multi-generational elements that everyone could relate too.
- Our attendance was lower - it was snowy - but I wonder if people even remember that it was Sunday with all the holiday schedules.?!?!?
- Glad Christmas is over - this was a good series though.
